Gap Year Courses

Planning Your Gap Year

Many people choose to take a gap year, whether after school, university or as a career break and a cookery course taken during this time is something that can give you skills to last a lifetime. Whether you are travelling abroad, looking for employment during this year or both, a cookery course at Edinburgh New Town Cookery School in the heart of Scotland's capital city, will equip you with the practical skills that potential employers will be looking for. We have teachers who have spent time cooking abroad and have a wealth of experience to pass on to students.

A popular area of employment during this time is working as a Chalet Host in the Alps. As part of a gap year it is a great experience to work as a Chalet girl or boy. One of our teachers has spent 5 seasons working as a chef in different ski resorts and is able to pass on her wealth of experience in this area. Other opportunities include working in Villas, Shooting and Sporting Lodges, Yachts in the Mediterranean or Caribbean and in other areas of the world. Having an employable skill can help to fund the gap year too.
We have links with agencies who employ people for these sectors.

The courses that are particularly suitable for this are:
